Sean Ryan Christopher Spence (born June 7, 1990) is an American football linebacker who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the NFL Draft 2012. He played college football at the University of Miami, where he was named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Defensive Rookie Conference of the Year. Spence has also been a member of the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts.

College career

Playing as a true freshman, Spence is the starter in the last eight games in Miami, and ranks third on the team with 62 tackles to handle 7.5 tackles for loss, and a pair of sacks. She was named for College Football News? First All-Freshman team, as well as Rivals.com? 2008 Freshman All-America team. Four weeks into the 2010 season, Spence has the highest-team in tackles (38) and handles losses (6.5) in just four games. At the end of the 2011 season, Spence earned first recognition of the All-ACC team for the 2011 season. The senior captain, tied for fifth place at the Atlantic Coast Conference with 106 total tackles in 2011, ended the second year among all NCAA players with 47 career tackles for losses, including 14.0 in 2011. A semifinalist for the Butkus Award, Spence averaged 9.64 tackles per game (fourth in the conference) and 1.27 tackles for loss per game (third in conference) in 2011. He completed season with three sacks, one break-up and the other forced to grope.

Professional career

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers voted Spence in the third round (overall 86) from the NFL Draft 2012. He is the 11th midfielder selected in 2012.

On May 29, 2012, Pittsburgh Steelers signed Spence for a four-year contract, $ 2.70 million.

He suffered a serious knee injury during his pre-season and was declared out for the entire 2012 season. On August 25, 2013, the Steelers put Spence on the Unprecedented List of Physical Reserves (PUP). Three weeks after being removed from the PUP list, Steelers put Spence on injured reserves, ending injury-hit 2013 season.
