Christopher Tyler Austin (born September 6, 1991) is the first professional American baseball baseman and an outsider to the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played baseball for Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia, before Yankees chose him in the MLB draft 2010. He became a highly respected prospect, but missed playing time due to injury. Austin made his MLB debut in 2016.

Austin is the oldest of three sons born to Kim and Chris Austin. She also has two younger brothers, Dylan and Kyle. Although he grew up in Conyers, Georgia, 25 miles (40 km) from Atlanta, Austin grew up as a fan of the New York Yankees and regards Derek Jeter as his favorite player.
Austin attended Heritage High School in Conyers. He plays for the baseball school team as a catcher, third baseman, and pitcher. He was invited to play in amateur show tournaments, such as AFLAC All-American Game. In 2008, his sophomore season, Austin had an average of 0.626 strokes with 19 home runs, and The Rockdale Citizen named him their high school baseball bat this year. At the age of 17, Austin was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor, but did not require chemotherapy because his cancer was known earlier and did not spread to other parts of his body.

Austin is committed to attending Kennesaw State University on a college baseball scholarship to play for Kennesaw State Owls. Noticed by Yankees area guard Darryl Monroe, the Yankees chose Austin in the 13th round, with the 415nd selection, from the 2010 Major League Baseball draft as a catcher. Austin signed a contract with the Yankees rather than registering at Kennesaw State, receiving a $ 130,000 signing bonus. He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Yankees of the Gulf Coast Rookie League, playing in two games. In 2011, Austin started the season with the Yankees Bay Beach, before receiving promotion to the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League A-Short Season Class. He has an average of 0.354 batting in the 2011 season. Although he was designed as a catcher, Austin spent most of his playing time as first baseman and third baseman.
Austin started the 2012 season with Charleston RiverDogs from Class A South Atlantic League. He was named to appear in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. After hitting 14 home runs with Charleston, the Yankees promoted Austin to the Tampa Yankees from Class A-Advanced Florida State League in July. He was chosen to represent the Yankees in the All-Star Futures Game, but suffered a head injury in July 2012, which caused him to resign from the game. After the end of the regular Tampa season, the Yankees promote Austin again, this time to Trenton Thunder from the Eastern League Class AA, so that he can play for the Thunder during the Eastern League postseason. He finished the 2012 season, hitting 0.322 with 0.400 on base percentage, 0,559 slugging percentage, 17 home runs, and 80 run batted in (RBIs). Brian Cashman, general manager of the Yankees, called Austin a "great prospect" in August 2012. Austin won the Yankees Small League Player of the Year Award for the 2012 season.
Prior to the 2013 season, Austin was ranked as the 77th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America. The Yankees invite Austin to conduct spring training in 2013 as a non-roster player. He plays for Trenton, especially as an outside player. He was selected to appear in the Eastern League All-Star Game. Austin entered the defect list with a wrist injury in July, which caused him to lose nearly 60 games. He fought.257 with 0.344 percentage on-base and 0.373 slugging percentage with six home runs and 40 RBI in 83 matches for Trenton in 2013. Yankees assigned him to Scorpions Scottsdale from the Arizona Fall League (AFL) after the regular season.
Austin loses about 10 pounds (4.5 kg) by focusing on nutrition and gaining strength during the 2013-14 offseason. After struggling against his wrist injury from the previous season, he returned to Trenton for the 2014 season. He fought.275 with nine home runs and 47 RBI in 105 games during the 2014 season. After the regular season, Yankee re-assign Austin to Scottsdale at AFL but his playing time is limited by a knee injury. On November 20, 2014, the Yankees added Austin to their 40-person list to protect it from being selected in Rule 5 draft.
Austin played for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the AAA International League Class at the start of the 2015 season. He fought with RailRiders, hitting 0.230 before the time lost with injury in late June. The Yankees relegated Austin to Trenton Thunder after he hit 0.235 in 73 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He fights.260 with two home runs and eight RBIs for Trenton. The Yankees appointed him to duty at the end of the minor league season in September, removing it from their 40-man list. He left unclaimed on the waivers, and the Yankees sent him directly to Trenton. The Yankees assigned him to the AFL for the third time after the 2015 season, in lieu of injured Eric Jagielo.
The Yankees did not invite Austin for spring training in 2016. He started the season with Trenton, where he fights.260 in 50 games. The Yankees promoted Austin to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre during the season. Austin fights.323 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI in 57 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
New York Yankees
The Yankees promoted Austin to the premier league list on 13 August 2016. He made his debut in the premier league of the day. In his first game at the bat, he hit his first premier league home run, Matt Andriese. With the next bat, Aaron Judge, also making his debut, hit the home run. It marked the first time that two teammates had hit their first home run in a bat in the same game. Austin fought.241 with five home runs, but also had 36 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances.
Austin suffered a fracture of the navicular region on his left foot on February 17, 2017. He was sidelined for six weeks. On April 2, 2017, she was placed on a list of people who were inactive for 60 days. He returned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on rehabilitation duties on May 26th. Yankees activated it from the disabled list and selected it to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 5 June. The Yankees promoted Austin to the premier league on June 24, having appointed Chris Carter for the task. He fought 2-for-13 (.154) with a home run in four games before injuring his right knee. He entered the disabled list, and activated and selected Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 11 August. On August 17, Austin was recalled after Garrett Cooper was injured. On August 19, Austin hit a three-run homer from Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale who helped them win a big game in the banner race.
Austin made a list of Yankees Opening Day in 2018. On April 11, 2018, against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, Austin was hit by a pitch of Joe Kelly in a possible retaliation for spiking Brock Holt early in the game. Austin then slams his batter into the ground in anger and accuses the mound, causing a clearing-seat clearing. Four players, including Austin issued. This was Austin's first career flick. The next day, on April 12, Austin was suspended for five matches and a fine of an undisclosed amount. On appeal, the Austin suspension was reduced to four games. On June 14, 2018, Austin was selected for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
