College career

A Beaver fan grows, Anderson wants to play for the State of Oregon most of his life and his decision as the top national prospect to play for the Beaver is celebrated by fans.

At 6'6 ", Anderson is not a prototypical quarterback, in fact, many believe he will play basketball in college rather than football, but he is nationally recruited for soccer and his school's dominating performance as a quarterback keeps him with football.

New season (2001)

As a freshman in the 2001 season, Anderson appeared in five games and recorded 263 passing yards, one touchdown, and three intercept.

Season sophomore (2002)

At the beginning of the second year (2002), Anderson was pushed into the starting role as a quarterback and handed control of the program quickly improved. Despite a series of early losses, Oregon State had no serious competition for quarterbacks in 2002 and the work was safe.

The early inclusion of Anderson into an early role came on the heels of Oregon State's most successful period to date. Filled with Fiesta Bowl victories over Notre Dame, the team went 11-1 in 2000 and ranked 4th in the country under head coach Dennis Erickson. After such a successful season, his expectations were very high in 2002 for Anderson and the OSU program.

Even so, Anderson helps the beaver record the 8-5 season. His work was good enough to get them into the 2002 Bowl Bowl, against the University of Pittsburgh. Anderson's team lost 38-13 and Erickson coaches head to head coach position of the National Football League with San Francisco 49ers.

The junior season (2003)

The pressure on the whole team to keep the program running is worsened by the coaching changes. The return of Mike Riley's previous head coach from the NFL means learning a whole new system. With the help of teammate and star running back Steven Jackson, Anderson went back into the opportunity and played a leading role in pushing the team to an 8-5 record, this time ending the 2003 season with a Las Vegas Bowl 55-14 win over then the current New Mexico program rose leaves.

Senior season (2004)

Throughout the 2004 season, Anderson managed to branch off and shocked many defenses with his ability to escape from the tackle and run the ball effectively. Although the 7-5 performance of the team is far from spectacular, Anderson becomes nationally recognized as a dangerous offensive weapon that can strike a long profit at will. The Beavers went without Steven Jackson through the 2004 season (Jackson was recruited into the NFL at the end of the 2003 season). Even without the star running back, Anderson led his team back to the Insight Bowl where they again faced Notre Dame (led by Browns' future teammate Brady Quinn). The Beavers were never left in the game and beat the Irish players 38-21. Anderson graduated for 359 yards and had four goals pass without interception.

Anderson is the fourth player in Pac-10 history to throw over 4,000 yards in a season, setting Oregon State Beavers football record at 4,058 meters in the 2003 season. He finished second in Pac-10 to score through career, in 79 ( also Oregon State records). He is the sixth person to ever throw 10,000 yards in a career in Pac-10.

Professional career

Baltimore Ravens

Anderson was selected from Oregon State University by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft (overall 213), but never played for them and was released on 20 September 2005.

Cleveland Browns

season 2005

Anderson claimed to be released from the Cleveland Browns the day after being released by the Ravens. He did not see any action, was third in the depth charts behind Trent Dilfer and Charlie Frye.

2006 season

Anderson served as Frye's reserve for the Cleveland Browns in the 2006 season. He made his first appearance in the NFL regular season game against the Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns Stadium, October 22, 2006, taking a snap after Frye got shaken. NFL appearances are both more important. After Frye injured his wrist during the first half of the December 3 game of Cleveland against Kansas City's Head, Anderson played the whole of the second half. He threw two of his first NFL touchdowns in the game, hooking up with Steve Heiden's tight final twice in the fourth quarter. Anderson rushed for 33 yards in overtime, transferring the ball from the 45-yard Kansas City line to the 12-yard line, after Browns were in the target field range. Anderson's drama was instrumental in leading the Browns back from a 28-14 deficit to a 31-28 overtime win. Overall, Anderson appeared in five games and recorded 793 passing yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions in the 2006 season.

2007 season

Although some reports say he beat starters starter Frye and rookie Brady Quinn in mini camps, Anderson was unproductive in pre-season matches and Frye was selected as a starter for the 2007 season. Head coach Romeo Crennel earlier said that the two are so close in effectiveness that he will use toss a coin to decide which quarterback will start the first pre-season game. Anderson will take over for Frye at the 2007 opener after Frye was ineffective in the first quarter against archrival Pittsburgh Steelers. The game is Frye's last in a Browns uniform, as he traded to Seattle Seahawks to pick the sixth round draft two days later. Named quarterback started by Crennel for Week 2, Anderson threw for 328 yards and five goals against Cincinnati Bengals in his first start. The passer rating for the game was 121.0 when Browns beat Bengals 51-45, strengthening Anderson's role. In the same game, quarterback Bengals Carson Palmer threw for six passing goals. It was only the third time in NFL history that two quarterbacks have thrown at least five goals through in the same game.

On September 30, Anderson beat the team that originally compiled it, the Baltimore Ravens. He threw for two goals and 204 yards, finishing 10 of 18 passing trials with just one interception. The Browns will then beat the Ravens again, making it the first time since 2001 that Browns were able to sweep the Ravens.

At the 13th week of the 2007 season, Browns faced the Arizona Cardinals. Down 27-21 at the end of the 4th, Browns drove into the Cardinals line of 34 yards. In fourth position, Anderson threw the bait into the final zone captured by Kellen Winslow. The permit was removed from the limit and suspended through review. Anderson argues that Winslow was forced out, but coercive rules can not be examined. The game is notable for referee absent calls from Braylon Edwards capturing and tackling with contact, but mistakenly ruled the touchdown as Edwards woke up and ran to the endzone.

Another close match that could put Browns in the playoffs was December 23 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where Browns went scoreless in the first half, but held off a goalless Bengals in the second half. Anderson has four interceptions, two of them in consecutive dramas, and another in the Cincinnati final zone as Cleveland seems headed for scoring drives. The Browns have two possession turn-on-downs. Anderson threw two goal passes to Braylon Edwards, scoring only Cleveland in the game. The match ended in a 19-14 defeat.

Anderson led Browns to a 10-6 overall record, 10-5 in the match in which he started. Anderson finished with 29 goals to 19 interception. During the week of 12-18 December, Anderson was named as the first alternative to Pro Bowl 2008 in the quarterback. On February 4, Tom Brady of the New England Patriots announced he would not attend the Bowl Pro due to injury. This paved the way for Anderson to make his first appearance at Pro Bowl.

2008 season

On February 29, 2008, the first day of free agent, after speculation that Anderson would leave Cleveland to pursue a larger contract, Anderson agreed to a three-year deal to stay with Browns through the 2010 season. With fans split between the proven Anderson and Quinn home-grown (Quinn image wearing the Bernie Kosar jersey as a child was shown in the 2007 NFL Draft), many speculate that Brown was in the same position as the San Diego Filler a few years ago with Drew Brees and their first-round pick, Philip Rivers.

The 2008 season was a difficult season for Brown and Anderson. In preseason, he suffered a concussion when he was fired by Osi Umenyiora of the New York Giants. This will prevent him practicing for most of the pre-season. In his regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, he was 11-of-24 for 110 yards and one goal. On November 3, after the start of the season Browns announced that Anderson would be reciprocated in favor of Quinn. On November 23, during the game against Houston Texans, Quinn was guided by Crennel who supported Anderson. On 25 November, Quinn was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken finger and Anderson was replaced to an early quarterback. On 30 November, Anderson was injured during the match versus the Indianapolis Colts. He was later downgraded to an MCL injury, which put Anderson out for the season. Ken Dorsey went into the starting role, but could not save Brown. The Browns lost in the last four games with a 4-12 record.

2009 season

In the 2009 season, Anderson continued to compete with Quinn. He appeared in eight games for Browns. He finished with 888 passing yards, three goals, and ten interceptions. The Browns finished the season with a 5-11 record.

Arizona Cardinals

On March 17, 2010, Anderson signed a two-year contract worth $ 7.25 million with Arizona Cardinals. After Kurt Warner retired and Matt Leinart was released, Anderson became the starting quarterback for the Cardinals. After struggling in his first few matches, Anderson got support from rookie Max Hall on 6 October. Anderson was named as early quarterback again for the November 7 game against Minnesota Vikings after a struggling Hall. However, by the 14th week he was laid back after suffering a concussion and was replaced by Hall, whose season ended with a separate shoulder then in the game. Rookie John Skelton finished the match and replaced Anderson as the early quarterback of the Cardinals. Anderson also created the famous soundbite after being caught on national TV laughter with teammate Deuce Lutui as he and his team played poorly. His subsequent anger towards reporters who keep asking about it makes national news and is featured on several sporting events. Anderson was released by Cardinals on July 28, 2011.

Carolina Panthers

Anderson signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers on July 31, 2011. Since then, he has been a reserve for Cam Newton quarterback and has played several times for Carolina to end the game or play for injured starters. On September 7, 2014, Anderson made his first debut since 2010 after Newton suffered an injury that kept him out. In his first 1 week, Anderson finished 24 of 34 passes for 230 yards, two goals, and without interception, leading the Panthers to a 20-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Anderson will start his second start in the 2014 season after Cam Newton was involved in a car accident. Incidentally, this game also against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Anderson finished the match by completing 25 of 40 passes for 277 yards, one touchdown, and without interception, helping the Panthers win 19-17.

On February 7, 2016, Anderson was part of the Panthers team playing in the Super Bowl 50. In the game, Anderson served as active active quarterback Cam Newton when the Panthers fell to the Denver Broncos with a score of 24-10.

In Week 4 of the 2016 season against the Atlanta Falcons, Anderson entered the match after injury to Newton and threw for 172 yards, two goals, and two interceptions as the Panthers lost by a score of 48-33. Due to Newton's injury, Anderson started Sunday 5 games against the Buccaneers and threw for 278 yards and two interceptions as the Panthers lost by 17-14. On Sunday 13th against Seattle Seahawks, Anderson started his second season. He threw an interception on the Panthers play first on offense and was subsequently replaced by Newton. Anderson started the game because Newton had broken the team's dress code. Anderson came into the game Card Wild Card Round 2017 against New Orleans Saints in the fourth quarter after Newton suffered an injury.
