Alan Christopher Judge (born November 11, 1988) is a professional Irish footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Brentford Championship club.
The judge started his career at Blackburn Rovers and returned to the club in 2013 after a two and a half season spell with Notts County. The judge spent the second half of the 2013-14 season on loan at Brentford in League One before joining the club permanently in the summer of 2014. The judge represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level and made his senior debut in March 2016.

Blackburn Rovers
Born in Dublin, County Dublin, Judge began his career at St. John's National School. Joseph in D̮'̼n Laoghaire and appeared for the Senior Boys school team. In 2006, the Judge joined the academy at Premier League club Blackburn Rovers. He became professional at the age of 17 and became a regular player in the reserve team during the 2007-08 season, scoring seven goals. He made his debut for the senior team as a substitute in the 4-1 League Cup second round win over Grimsby Town in August 2008 and his first start followed in a narrow FA Cup third round win over Spartan Blyth in January 2009. Shortly after, he signed new run until the end of season 2010-11. The judge spent the majority of the next two years on loan and left Ewood Park in January 2011.
Plymouth Argyle (loan)
The judge joined Plymouth's Championship club Argyle on loan on January 29, 2009, for the rest of the 2008-09 season. He appeared regularly in the starting XI for then team manager Paul Sturrock and scored his first senior goal of his career against Burnley in March. The season ends with the Judge having made 17 appearances in all competitions.
The judge rejoined Argyle on loan during the 2009-10 season. He continued to appear regularly in the first team and scored his first goal in senior football with two goals in an impressive 4-1 win over Reading on 28 December. Pilgrims were relegated from the Championship at the end of the season and the Judge returned to Blackburn. He made 40 appearances and scored five goals during a second spell. In 2013, the Plymouth Herald was named Judge as the fifth best loan signing from Argyle.
Notts County (loan & signing permanent)
On August 31, 2010, the Judge signed a six-month loan deal with League One Notts County club. His loan expired on January 1, 2011, but County re-signed the Judge on a further one-month loan so he will be available for the upcoming match while a permanent deal is finalized. He made 14 appearances during his loan and did not score. On January 14, 2011, the Judge completed a permanent move to Notts County and signed a two-year contract with the club. Just days after the signing, the Judge broke the metatarsal bone on his right foot in a game against Hartlepool United. After a seven week spell on the sidelines, the Judge returns to action against Swindon Town. He scored a counterweight, before setting up Lee Hughes to give County three points in a 2-1 win. He made 21 appearances and scored one goal during the 2010-11 season.
The judge scored his first goal of the 2011-12 season in a 3-1 away win against Chesterfield. The form saw him take players in a row from the November and December awards respectively. He progressed under manager Martin Allen and finished the season with 8 goals and 13 assists. The judges hired Notts County Player of the Year and Supporters of the Year Player of the Year for the 2011-12 season.
The judge scored his first goal of the 2012-13 season in a 2-0 victory over Bury on 1 September 2012. In February 2013 and playing under his sixth different manager since arriving at Meadow Lane, Judge revealed he was "sick" from high-turnover managers and captain Neal Bishop supported the Judge's comments. Regardless of his unrest, Judge's appearance throughout the 2012-13 season made him named in the League One of the Best PFA Teams of the Year. He finished the season with 43 appearances and eight goals. On April 27, 2013, it was announced that the Judge would leave Meadow Lane.
Return to Blackburn Rovers
The judge re-signed for Blackburn Rovers, now in the Championship, on a three-year contract on July 1, 2013. He scored his first Blackburn goal in a 3-1 League Cup defeat to Carlisle United on 7 August 2013. He made 12 appearances during the season. 2013-14, scored one goal. Although the manager Gary Bowyer insisted that the Judge was in his plan, the Judge left Ewood Park for the second time on 2 June 2014, having made just 14 appearances and scored a goal for four years with the club as the first team player. 2013-14
On January 8, 2014, the Judge joined League One side Brentford on loan for the rest of the 2013-14 season. He appeared as a regular starter and scored his first Bee on his fourth appearance, scoring the second in a 3-1 win over Bristol City on 28 January. On April 18, the Judge scored a penalty that left Brentford beating Preston North End 1-0 at Griffin Park, to confirm Bees' promotion to the Championship with three matches remaining. He scored his seventh goal of the campaign in a 2-0 win over Stevenage on the final day. He made 22 appearances during his spell with Bees and on June 2, 2014, the Judge signed a contract for Brentford permanently on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
2014-15
The judge started the 2014-15 Championship season in the role of defensive midfielder alongside Jonathan Douglas, with Alex Pritchard having assumed his attacking role on the left side of the midfield. He scored his first goal of the season on his twentieth appearance, sliding home the opening opener in a 4-0 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Griffin Park on 29 November. Judge missed his first league game of the season on January 10, 2015, having to undergo a knee injury during a 2-0 defeat in the previous FA Cup 2-0 final at Brighton & Hove Albion. After more than four months of goalless, Hakim scored a free-kick to help send the Bees en route to a 4-1 win over West London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage on 3 April. The successful season ended in defeat of Middlesbrough in the semifinal playoffs, with Judge having made 41 appearances and scored three goals.
2019 2015-16 and injury
The judge scored his first goal of the 2015-16 season on August 15, 2015, when he canceled out Jonathan Kodjia's opening goal to send Brentford en route to a 4-2 win over Bristol City and he was retrospectively credited with a second goal in the same game. Three goals and four assists for four consecutive wins in October won the Judge the Championship Player of the Month award. The other six goals until January 2016 led to his nomination for the 2016 Footballer of the Year award at the London Football Awards 2016. The judge's season came to a premature end on April 9, 2016, when he suffered several breaks on his left foot after "falling by the sickening challenge" of Ipswich Town, Luke Hyam. He scored 14 goals a season-best during the 2015-16 season and also made more assists from every Brentford player for the second season in a row. At the 2016 Football League Awards, Judge was elected to the Best Footballer of the Year and was named Best Football Team of the Year. He was also mentioned in the PFA Team of the Year Championship at the PFA Awards and won the Player and Player of the Year award from Brentford Supporters. The judge signed a new two-year contract on March 29, 2017, but underwent further surgery to improve bone healing in April 2017.
Recovery and 2017-18
The judge returned to first team training in early November 2017 and made his comeback for Brentford B versus Barnet U23 on December 5, scoring an early penalty in a 45 minute appearance. He was named in the first-team squad for the first time in the 2017-18 season on 26 December, but remained an unused substitute during a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. He then spent time out of the squad due to illness and needed additional training and had to wait until January 6, 2018 for his comeback, which came with a 20th minute replacement cameo at the end of the second round of FA Cup 1-0 defeat of the former Notts County club. He was used in a substitute role until the end of the season and made 14 appearances without scoring.

Youth
The judge made his international debut with the Republic of Ireland team U17 in October 2004, winning five caps and scoring twice during the team's European U21 Cup qualification failed U21. He represented the U18 side at the 2005 European Youth Olympic Festival in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. A 4-2 win over Switzerland in third place playoff saw U18s win the bronze medal. The judge made his U19 debut in a 2-1 friendly win over Ukraine at Terryland Park on August 15, 2006. He was a regular player for U19 during their qualifying campaign for the 2007 U19 European Championship and scored his first goal in a 2-1 win to Macedonia on October 6 2006. The judge appeared in the third qualifying game of the U18 elite, but despite victories over Bulgaria and Hungary, Germany's defeat saw Germany qualify for the finals. The judges also represented the U19s in the 2007 Oporto Tournament in Portugal, but went home without any silverware.
The judge made his U debut in a 3-2 friendly win over Sweden on October 12, 2007, coming on as a substitute for Jim O'Brien after 68 minutes. The judges made two appearances during the U21 UEFA UEFA 2009 Championship qualifying qualifying campaign. He appeared in all qualifying matches for the U21 U21 Championship 2011, with an early goal scored in a 1-1 draw with Georgia being the only highlight of the campaign that saw the U21 team end up under their group. He won 13 U21 caps and scored twice. The judge made four appearances for U23 at the 2008 Continental Inter Cup, but came without a trophy.

The form of judge in the Championship with Brentford saw him named in the Irish Republic team while in May, August and October 2015 and he was finally mentioned in the matchday squad for the first qualifying match of the Euro 2016 qualifiers playoffs against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 13 November 2015 He was a substitute who did not used during a 1-1 draw. Judge debuted early in a friendly against Switzerland on March 25, 2016, playing a full 90 minutes 1-0 win. He scored his first senior international goal on his fourth appearance, with the winner in a 2-1 friendly win over the United States on 2 June 2018.
Play style
The judge is known for his energy and driving ability, as well as his ability to score spectacular long-haul goals. This led to him being nicknamed "The Irish Messi" by players, fans, and experts. Brentford's classmate Maxime Colin commented that the judge "felt soccer and he had a very good kick, a good cross, he never gave up, he gave a lot of strength and strength.
Personal life
Judge Dermot's dad played for Shamrock Rovers and became captain of Bray Wanderers for success in the 1990 Final Cup Final.
