Texas Rangers: Where are the members of the 2011 Rangers World ...
src: sportsdaydfw.imgix.net

Despite playing during one of the hottest summer recorded in Texas, Rangers claimed a second successive Western division title (fifth overall) and set the franchise record to win (96 wins and 0.552 wins, one win better than previous record). 1999) and home attendance (2,946,949 fans at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, breaking the old record in 1997). Another year of improvement from early pitching and defense will give Rangers the closest in the American League, and trail the Philadelphia Phillies with just two to lead Major League Baseball (MLB). The five members of the opening day of the rotation start will keep rotating for a full year. C. J. Wilson is bound to lead the league at start with 34 while Derek Holland is tied for second in shutouts with four, tied for first in the American League, and every pitcher will have at least 13 wins. The offense, always considered a strong point for the team, will also have a good year with three players earning 30 home runs, and Ian Kinsler finishing the 30 second home run/30 stolen seasons.

Rangers won their second AL West title and beat Tampa Bay Rays in four games and Detroit Tigers in six to advance to the 2011 World Series. They lost to St. Louis Cardinals in seven games, their second successive defeat at Fall Classic, becoming the first team losing in the World Series since Atlanta Braves in 1991 and 1992. The World Series are notorious for Rangers being one attack away from World Champions twice in Game 6 with twice lead each time before eventually losing to Cardinals 10-9 in 11 innings thriller. They will continue to lose Game 7, 6-2.

Offseason

The biggest free pitcher agent on the market in 2011 is Cliff Lee. According to a major media market, Lee's goal most likely for 2011 is to return to Texas, or signing with the New York Yankees. Bob Simpson, principal investor of Rangers Baseball Express who owns Rangers, told the media "We will be chasing Cliff Lee - hard, and we have the financial power to do that." After an extended process which included flights by Chuck Greenberg's main owner, Ray Davis team investor, and GM's assistant Thad Levine to meet with Lee, his wife and agents after the winter meeting, Lee signed a five-year contract with Phillies to return to the team that traded on the beginning of the 2010 season.

On November 3, 2010, Rangers refused to use their 2011 option on Vladimir Guerrero's contract. Guerrero is a type A free agent but Rangers will not receive any draft pick compensation for Guerrero after he signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

Scott Feldman underwent surgery to repair the torn cartilage in his right knee. Rehabilitation time for the operation will prevent Feldman from competing again to get a rotation spot for the start of the season. Feldman was a Texas Rangers pitcher this year in 2009 and the opening day starter for 2010, but failed to repeat his success in 2010 after signing a three-year extension.

For the second year in a row, Rangers must fill the position of hitting the coach after Clint Hurdle took the manager's position with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rangers signed Thad Bosley. Bosley was a member of staff coach A during the time of Washington with A, as well as the team with first base coach Gary Pettis at the Rangers organization during his final year of play.

Rangers signed two players in November: a 34-year-old free agent, Japanese pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama, a side-arm thrower, and Yorvit Torrealba captor from San Diego Padres. Torrealba is a free agent of type B and does not incur any fees for Rangers to opt for signing. Bengie Molina, Rangers' primary catcher in 2010, was elected to retirement.

On December 26, Rangers and pitcher Brandon Webb agreed a one-year contract. Webb, recovering from shoulder surgery, has not been in the majors since the opening day of 2009.

The movement of the largest Rangers free agent for the 2011 season will be the signing of the third baseman AdriÃÆ'¡n Beltrà ©  ©. The six-year deal, $ 96 million will force veteran Michael Young into fourth with Rangers. Although Young is hesitant to make another move position, Young tells Rangers and the media he is willing to turn to the designated batter in order for Rangers to sign the Beltre. With the signing of Beltre and Young's move, Rangers did not keep trying to sign back Guerrero, who will sign a one-year contract with the Orioles. In late January, Rangers made their biggest trade in the offseason when long-term trading target Mike Napoli earned from Toronto Blue Jays for a Frank Francisco aid pitcher. Napoli became available for Rangers after being sent to the Blue Jays with Juan Rivera just three days earlier in exchange for Vernon Wells. The weaker bullpen from losing Francisco will not be the biggest problem of Napoli's trade as utility infielder DH Michael Young will demand both trading demand in three years. After a press conference in which Rangers president Nolan Ryan and GM Jon Daniels acknowledged Young's trading request, showing Young having a change of heart after initially agreeing to be the designated primary bat, Young fired back saying to the press

The suggestion that I have a change of heart and ask for trade is a manipulation of the truth. I ask for trades because I have been misled and manipulated and I am disgusted with it.

Although the trade rumors about Young will continue after his request, as happened during and after the winter meeting, no upcoming trade and Young reported for the Spring training on time.

With infield and outfield sets, and some players are able to close in different positions, the rotation and bullpen will be the biggest question to be addressed by the front office. C. J. Wilson was appointed as the first day startter, followed by Colby Lewis and Tommy Hunter. Free agent Brandon Webb will continue to prepare to return to baseball, but will not be ready in time for the opening day and will start the season on the disabled list. Injuries to Hunter will put him on the disabled list to start the season, and Matt Harrison, who has won fourth place, will be moved to third. The remaining candidates, Derek Holland, Michael Kirkman, Eric Hurley and NeftalÃÆ' Feliz are closer, will continue to compete for the last two places. Kirkman and Hurley are sent to AAA, and Feliz is returned to a closer role due to a weakened bullpen. Reliever Alexi Ogando will be the number 5 star behind Holland to start the season.

On March 11, just 220 days after the acquisition of the team from the auction, Chuck Greenberg will resign as CEO of Rangers. The resignation came because of a different management style between Greenberg and president Nolan Ryan. Ryan added a CEO title to his position.

I have great respect for the Texas Rangers franchise and I am very proud of everything we have accomplished together since August. Unfortunately, Nolan Ryan, Chairman Together, and I have a slightly different style. Although I am disappointed we did not work through our differences, I remain wholeheartedly committed to doing what is right for the franchise. Together we concluded that it was best for all those interested in me to sell my interest back to Rangers Baseball Express and move on. I do it with a heavy heart, but with every confidence in the direction that a new management team takes on Rangers and, with Nolan at the helm, I know this franchise will continue to grow and reach even greater heights both inside and outside the field.

Although the rift between Greenberg and Ryan was never publicly discussed by Rangers, the report shows two major events that may directly lead to the removal of Greenberg, Greenberg's involvement with additional efforts to sign Cliff Lee, and his involvement with prospective Young merchants after Young demanding trade, Greenberg demands young deferred interest by Young because of him by Rangers. The request will be a breach of MLB CBA.

During GM's spring training Jon Daniels and Young met twice to discuss situations leading to Young's trading request. Daniels said it was a continuing trade discussion of Rangers after Young was told he would not be traded after the third baseman AdriÃÆ'¡n BeltrÃÆ' Â © gained that helped lead to trade demand.

The Rangers then traded Matt Treanor to the Kansas City Royals (Treanor would later be sold back to Rangers at the end of August).

April

Record 16-11

Rotasi: C. J. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Dave Bush

For the first time under manager Ron Washington Rangers will finish in April with a record above 0,500. After sweeping the first two series against Boston and Seattle, Rangers will suffer their first defeat of the season against Baltimore in the first game of double header on April 9 after the opener series is dampened. The Rangers are the last team in the 2011 season to record the losses and any Ranger starter will get a win from game 2 through game 6, the first team to have 5 different starters winning at least 1 game each. After the Baltimore series, Rangers will miss three consecutive series against the Tigers, Yankees, and Angels. A sweep of the Royals, a 1-3 series lost to Toronto, and a two-game split with Oakland will end this month. Rangers will only spend a day out of the first place for the West in that month.

Ian Kinsler will make history of the Premiership by becoming the first player to lead the home run in the first two games of the season. Kinsler will also set another record with Nelson Cruz by becoming the first team-mates to hit at least one home run each in each of their first three games of the season. Cruz will make his home run in the first four games of the season, only the third player in Premiership history, and the first to do so in the League of America. Shortstop Elvis Andrus will also hit his first home run since 2009 in the fourth game of the season.

Ogando will make his second start against the Detroit Tigers and win both. In each of the first two starts of the season, he went 6 innings, triumphed, and surrendered 2 or fewer at the beginning, joining only with 4 other pitchers since 1919 to do so. Ogando will be the first to do it without giving up.

On 12 April, the leftist Josh Hamilton left the game after the first inning match on the plate. The Rangers will eventually lose their second game of the season and Hamilton will be diagnosed with a broken bone on his right shoulder. After the game, Hamilton expressed his worries about the game before running and called it a "stupid game" and thought "I do not want to do this... something will happen" but says he listened to his third base coach and ran in a rotten infield.

As a result of the rain against Baltimore on April 8, Colby Lewis starter pitched a day later than scheduled. This will force Lewis to miss the next start on April 13 against Detroit and result in Lewis losing a second start to the birth of his son. Local bloggers and shock radio athletes Richie Whitt will criticize Rangers 'and Lewis' decision to take time off as a result of the birth of Lewis's second child. Whitt shows the starter only gets thirty or so chances to influence the game of baseball, and since players are paid millions, a child's birth should be planned for the off season if necessary. Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant replied to a blog post stating that Baltimore's postponed rain that caused Lewis' next start to be one day later, so Lewis lost his next start to attend the planned birth of his second child. Grant also reported that Lewis offered to make an early short break before the leave to avoid an early loss, and was denied by Rangers to do so. Dave Bush will start at Lewis's place. Bush will be the last player to start the season with a list of 25 team players to make his debut in 2011. Lefthanded pitcher Michael Kirkman will be called during Lewis' leave.

On April 15, Rangers and pitcher Matt Harrison will tie MLB record by playing 6 double plays in the game. When Lewis returned on April 18, volunteer Mark Lowe was chosen to be AAA. Rule 5 draft pick Mason Tobin will leave the game on April 19 with an injury and placed on the DL 60 days the next day. Near NeftalÃÆ' Feliz will be sent to the 15-day defect list with shoulder inflammation on April 23rd and Darren O'Day will go on a 60-day DL with a torn labrum on his hip. Darren O'Day will also be placed on the 60-day DL on 27 April with a torn labrum on his left hip.

May

Record (month, year): 13-15, 29-26

Rotasi: Matt Harrison, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, C. J. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Dave Bush

After their May 1 defeat, Rangers were tied for first place with the Angels until falling to second place on 5 May. Rangers spent the next eleven days from first place, falling third in the division but never falling under 2 games behind Angels and regaining the division lead on May 16. Rangers will finish the.5 game in Seattle and 1 game above the Angel.

After several weeks of speculation, Rangers signed the defect of Cuba Leonys MartÃÆ'n on May 4 for a major league contract worth 15.5 million dollars and added it to the list of 40 players. Rangers also called Mark Lowe to Pedro Strop's majors and options to AAA.

Closer NeftalÃÆ'Â Feliz returned from DL on May 6. Nelson Cruz is placed on DL 15 days with a right quadriceps muscle that strains on May 7th. Craig Gentry was called to replace Cruz on the list.

The May 11 game between Texas Rangers and Oakland A was postponed due to rain in the middle of the fourth inning. After a 2 hour 21 minute delay, the game was called. Rangers led 7-0 in part due to Mitch Moreland's grand slam, but as the game was called before the end of the fifth inning, all proceeds from the match were canceled. Although both teams have the following day, the match can not be done the next day because Rangers have played 20 days in a row before, and that goes against the MLBPA rules to play for more than 20 consecutive days. This game will be played on a decisive July 7th.

Julio Borbon pulled a hamstring during the match 13 May and was placed on the DL 15 days. During this time, the first three outfilders will be in DL. Journeyman centerfielder Endy ChÃÆ'¡vez called to replace Borbon. To make room for the addition of ChÃÆ'¡vez to the list of 40 people, Brandon Webb is placed on 60 DLs. ChÃÆ'¡vez has joined the Rangers organization on small league contracts since 2010 while recovering from a slumped ACL during the 2009 season.

Rangers took first place in the division back at the close of Colby Lewis's first career on May 16.

Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz return to the team from DL on May 23.

A second Rangers home game was postponed due to rain in May. The 7:00 to 24 May match against the Chicago White Sox resulted in fans' evacuating the playing field and being placed at the underground entrance by rough officials with a "tornadic supercell" less than 10 miles off average. The team plays again at 1:00 CST the next day, but the cautious crew concludes the game should resume and the game resumes after a three hour delay.

Off the court, on May 26, Rangers officially released rookie play-by-play player John Rhadigan from TV booth and sent him back to post-game Fox Sports Southwest and pre-match performances. Rhadigan moved to a TV booth to replace long-time play-by-play caller Josh Lewin, whose contract expires at the end of the 2010 season. Rhadigan has no play-by-play experience before the season, and is often harassed by time fans on the Internet due to in-game errors and his inability to precisely and precisely describe the action on the ground.

June

Record (month, year) 14-13, 43-39

Rotasi: Alexi Ogando, Derek Holland, C. J. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison

Rangers will hold first place for the whole of June, but will lead the division no more than 2.5 for a month and end up with a 1-game lead over the angels.

After completing his DL task, midfielder Julio Borbon was selected to be AAA on 3 June. If Borbon is returned to the ML list, David Murphy, Endy ChÃÆ'¡vez, or Craig Gentry will be removed from the 25-player list. Although Murphy had a bad year of attack in June, he still represents a better offensive potential than the remaining winger players, and Gentry is the only right-winger besides Nelson Cruz. Chavez has no choice and to remain inside the organization, should be placed on a waiver and option for AAA.

Ian Kinsler went on paternity leave on 8 June. On the same day, Rangers also announced the dismissal of hitting coach Thad Bosley for communication differences. Author Beat Evan Grant reported after the dismissal of an example that occurred between Bosley and the Torrealba Yorvit capture.

[T] here are some recent confrontations with the players. Perhaps the most serious is the incident between Bosley and the challenger who is struggling Yorvit Torrealba. According to some sources, Torrealba asked in Philadelphia if he could do some extra batting punch drills because pitcher Colby Lewis refused to participate in a batting exercise on the day he threw. That, according to sources, it was agreed that Torrealba could hit in two different groups. But when he comes in with the second group, sources say, Bosley told him that he should not take additional changes. Torrealba then left the field. An argument between the two took place in the clubhouse.

Rangers replaced Bosley by promoting the AAA hit trainer and former Ranger player Scott Coolbaugh. Coolbaugh is the third hitting coach in two seasons after 14-year-old Rudy Jaramillo as coach hitting Texas.

Mike Napoli placed on the DL 15 days on June 12 with a tilted left tense muscle.

Former Venezuelan Alexi Ogando scored a 7-0 record before losing his first decision to the New York Yankees on June 14. He will lose the next two decisions that ended in June with a 7-3 record.

July

Record (month, year) 18-9, 61-48

After ending July 3rd tied for first place with Angels, Rangers entered an all-star break on a 7-match winning streak. The streak will last five other matches, the second-best winning streak in franchise history. However, Rangers will not get more than 5 games ahead of Angels as a result of the streak. Rangers ended the month of 2 games in the first place.

Ron Washington and first base coach Gary Pettis were both ejected from the 3 July match after a close call by first referee ÃÆ'ngel HernÃÆ'¡ndez. Washington was not involved in the argument between Pettis and HernÃÆ'¡ndez, but started shouting at the referee after HernÃÆ'¡ndez, according to Washington, "told me my job was to get him (Pettis) off the pitch. You do not know me what my job is..... You can not talk to Angel Angel is the smartest umpire in baseball. "Washington was later fined for his comments.

The next day, Washington pinched Mike Napoli for the designated hammer Michael Young in the eight innings of a 13-4 win over the Orioles. At the time of the bat, Young is home short run to hit the cycle, and Washington later admits his mistake by appointing Young to Napoli. This is the second time in Washington's tenure as Rangers manager that he pinched a hit for the batter which is one of the bat's potentials from completing the cycle.

Before Rangers' non-waiver trade deadline took Koji Uehara from Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Chris Davis and Mike Adams of San Diego Padres. Arthur Rhodes was released.

Fan Death

Exactly one year and one day after firefighters, Tyler Morris fell from the upper deck to the lower seat, another fan falling from the stands. Shannon Stone, also a firefighter, was present at the July 7 match against Oakland. After the left-fielder Josh Hamilton picked up a dirty ball, he threw it into the left field seat towards Stone. Stone, who was present with his son, tried to catch the ball by bending over the guardrail when he lost his balance and fell head first between the barrier separating the left field wall and the stands. Although Stone was aware when he left the baseball stadium, he died on the way to the hospital.

The Rangers started the Shannon Stone memorial fund for the family and plans to place a monument at the entrance of the house of a father and son walking in the baseball stadium.

Choice All Stars

  • Josh Hamilton LF
  • C. J. Wilson P
  • Alexi Ogando P
  • AdriÃÆ'¡n BeltrÃÆ' Â © 3B

Hamilton is the only Ranger selected by fan voting. Young and Beltre are each voted by players. Wilson was chosen by Washington. This decision does make some criticism from the media and fans, especially those who want the Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia selected. However, when Washington makes the selection, he also has the player voting results available to him, and knows which pitcher to choose if another starter is made unavailable as it starts before the All-Star game. After starting the pitcher, Justin Verlander was made unavailable due to his start, the next selected pitcher was Sabathia who also started. The last place was then given to Ogando who did not lose the game when the ballot of the player took place.

September

Record (month, year) 19-6, 96-66

On Friday, September 23, Rangers (playing at home) beat the Mariners by a score of 5-3 and move the magic number to 1 game. Since the angels had an early schedule on the west coast, about 12,000 fans stayed at Rangers Ballpark to watch the game's results on the scoreboard. After The Angels were defeated by Oakland A with a score of 3-1, making Rangers American League West champions for the second year in a row, Rangers returned to the field to celebrate in front of the fans. In a familiar scene, Rangers celebrate using ginger ale on the field with Josh Hamilton, but then spray each other with champagne inside the dressing room.

By sweeping the Angels in the last away game series, Rangers also took the lead in the field in the first round of the playoffs with a 96-66 record, second in the American League only to the New York Yankees with a 97-65 record.

MLB concept and free international agency

On November 11, 2010 Rangers signed a free agent, Barret Loux. Loux is the 6th choice in the MLB draft 2010 from Texas A & amp; M, by Arizona Diamondbacks, but Loux physically failed from Diamondbacks and draft bonus $ 2 million was canceled. The MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, decided that Diamondbacks would receive compensation for the MLB draft 2011 and Loux would become a free agent. Including Loux, Rangers signed 5 of the first 50 picks of the 2010 MLB draft.

Rangers signed 18-year-old Dutch short-stop Nick Urbanus in November. In December, Rangers signed three additional free agents; stopped sixteen years short of Rougned Bau from Venezuela, catcher Fernando vivili of the Dominican Republic, and pitcher Jose Leclair, also from DR.
